Privacy policy

CheckedJobs (“we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Who is responsible

CheckedJobs is the responsible party for your personal information. You can contact our Information Officer at privacy@checkedjobs.co.za.

What we collect

• Everyone: basic technical information (like your browser type and pages visited) to run and secure the site, and, only if you agree, cookies for advertising.
• Job seekers with an account: your name, email address and password (stored securely, never in plain text). If we add features like saved jobs or CV uploads, we'll collect only what those features need, and tell you first.
• Employers: business details (legal and trading name, CIPC number, address, website, business email and phone), the contact person's name and role, and any proof documents you choose to upload. We do not ask for South African ID numbers.
• Reports: when you report a job we store your report and a one-way code made from your internet address, so one person can't report the same job many times. We don't store the address itself.

Why we use it

• To run your account and show you jobs.
• To check that businesses and job adverts are genuine, and to keep scammers off the site.
• To send you emails you need (like account approval), and job alerts only if you ask for them.
• To meet legal obligations and to protect our users.

Automated checks, and your right to a human review

We use automated checks to screen employer sign-ups and job adverts for signs of fraud. If we decline your business account or an advert, we'll tell you why in plain words. You can ask for a person on our team to review the decision by replying to our email or writing to privacy@checkedjobs.co.za.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run CheckedJobs (hosting, database, email delivery and automated content checking), under agreements that require them to protect it. Some of these providers store or process information outside South Africa. We only use providers in countries or under agreements that give protection similar to POPIA.

When you apply for a job, you send your application directly to the employer through their website or email. That employer is responsible for your application from then on.

Where documents are stored

Employer proof documents are stored in private storage that only our review team can access, through short-lived secure links.

How long we keep it

• Your account details: until you delete your account.
• Job adverts: removed the day after their closing date.
• Records of rejected adverts and blocked scam contact details: kept as long as needed to protect users.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your cookie choice. If you choose “Accept all”, our advertising partner (Google AdSense) may use cookies to show more relevant ads. If you choose “Essential only”, any ads shown are not personalised. You can change your choice by clearing cookies for this site.

Your rights

You have the right to:

• ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy;
• ask us to correct or delete it;
• object to processing, and withdraw consent;
• complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).

You can delete your account and data at any time from My account, or email privacy@checkedjobs.co.za.

Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls and private storage. No system is perfect, but we'll tell you and the Information Regulator if a breach affects your information.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and tell account holders about important changes by email.
